Ok so before I begin, I want to highlight that this is the design thread. Questions in regards to the hilt run must stay on the interest thread which is posted in off-site runs (things are progressing nicely and we will post there when we have some updates for the hilt run). I need to keep updates regarding the hilt now there due to forum rules. Please make sure inquiries around the run go in the right place.
Alright. So now that is done, I wanted to let you all know that our design efforts have not ceased. To complement the upcoming hilt, I have begun designing the corresponding crystal chamber. I would love everyone's opinions, thoughts, feedback, reactions. If you hate it, tell me. If you love it, also tell me.
The intention to this is a pogo pin assembly for connectivity to the emitter very similar to hero chassis for other makers, but the intent is to be much more elaborate and also to be capable to affix to the hilt in a very sturdy and dependable fashion.
(I left extra female threads in the body for a reason... now you see why I did that).
What I am keenly interested in is the feedback from you all in terms of what people like to see in chamber designs and what things I may not have accounted for.
So here is what I have so far:
This is not finished yet at the very front, and the front section of the chamber intended to convey an energy channeling conduit still needs additional elements, but I am curious what everyone thinks.
Note, this is intended to support a number of different chamber configurations and crystal sizes, ranging all the way up to the new neopixel crystals released at TCSS.
What I am interested in is what feedback people have?
First reaction - can you make this available to go with the run? Seriously, I think this looks very solid, and in line with what I wold expect of a high-end saber. Well done!
we are discussing it. Is a trade off since not everyone would want one so is it better to offer it as a separate add on sold separately, or have an elevated price on the MoM to include it? (Not to mention delaying the run to finish the design, prototype and fabricate them.)
There is also value in offering it separately because it is actually expected to fit Anakin Starkiller's hero as well since early on we did a lot of note comparing. Insofar as I know Anakin adjusted his threading to match so this chamber also would fit his hilt.

Looks awesome! Would be interested if you were offering them as a separate add on or being sold separately. Saw the interest thread on the MoM of all heroes and was on the fence in getting it...but seeing this has made me decide that I need the MoM hilt and this chamber
Hey dayadjocen ! Where are you planning to put the Crystal? In the 'Radiator Section' or in the 'Dot-Dash, Dash, Dot-Dash Cutout Section'?
If you put the Crystal in the Radiator Section, you could put some sort of fibers in the Cutout Section and light them as well.
I think that would give a neat 'Plasma Creation Field'-esque effect.
If you tucked 3 3535's in there you could add a spinning effect to them and make the fibers shutter-strobe to create a sense of movement within the fibers without actually having to make them move!
Good Luck on the rest of the design!
So yeah as I was envisioning how it would be installed would be crystal in the radiator fins area, and some diffusion film in the dot dash conduit area with some 3535s along with the wires running to the emitter pogo connector. Would make a crystal and a glowing conduit area.
Can of course also be done with traditional LEDs too... but exactly what I was thinking.
jedipadawanmelissa: next month is my birthday month so excited, also sorry for the wait but good news is I'm ok been taking a breath break alittle bit as well as practicing with my sabers

vargose: greenie I think I am following. Generally my sabers only have 1.125 ID to work with. I think I am going to have to go wider. Unless the rear section is not part of the reveal, because I'm not sure I can get an 18650 and a soundboard into 1 inch ID.
Apr 13, 2021 10:15:41 GMT -5
greenie: Vargose, that was a bit of an over simplification. I generally have to separate the board from the battery. No room to ride on top.
Apr 13, 2021 11:40:05 GMT -5
greenie: Consider positioning components different to the standard chassis layout. Hide an 18650 inside 3/4" tube
Apr 13, 2021 13:00:53 GMT -5
greenie: No. Scratch that. It needs to be 1"
Apr 13, 2021 13:04:32 GMT -5
vargose: greenie how do you fit your board, battery, and crystal chamber, and still have room for resonance and a deep bladed socket without stacking?
Apr 14, 2021 9:32:28 GMT -5
greenie: The front/top of my CCs are usually the bottom of the heatsink. I bring my wiring in at an angle and through the centre of the LED star. Mount the board directly behind the speaker and add vents where possible.
Apr 14, 2021 15:01:19 GMT -5
greenie: i may lose a bit of resonance but that's a trade off I can live with. The right/best speaker makes the difference though.
Apr 14, 2021 15:03:14 GMT -5
greenie: My removable chassis wil fit into a blade holder the same as a standard heatsink module does. So it does not affect the blade socket depth.
Apr 14, 2021 15:56:04 GMT -5
greenie: For my first reveal saber I made a half crystal chamber with the board mounted under it. The size of the CC is whatever room I can spare after all components are positioned. My chassis are usually around 9" to 91/2".

vargose: greenie excellent guidance thank you. I think I am catching on. Its informing what I am seeing in your pictures

vargose: greenie the next big mystery is how you make your switches. I gather that there are "plungers" on the shroud and in the chasis. Do you make those with a lathe? How do you keep it attached to the main shroud?
