I just wanted to pop in and give everybody who's on the run a quick heads up. The prototype chassis will be here on Friday and I will commence on the install that evening. I've had the prototype and everything else I've needed for the install for week or two, just that was the remaining piece. Pretty excited about this one.
Thought I would go ahead and post pics of the install here in the thread while I get it completed and ask any questions you guys have along the way. Looking forwards to this one as it's a lot of firsts for us here and Nerworxlab.

Seeing all this action in here, anyone have any good ideas to match the color? I was kicking around the idea of not painting it.. dulling the aluminum down and just painting the inserts black like we see on the left.. but the one on the right is it’s true color  |

This color is interesting I think chemical weathering of the entire hilt with al black, and then polishing the high spots would be a bit more accurate and realistic looking. |

      Ok, so. The install on the Darksaber is complete and it's honestly so simple I'm not sure a write up is needed. The version you see in the prototype will most likely be the definitive one on shapeways and then for those who wish to can add the metal crystal chamber parts, much like the new ahsoka chassis. If you check out the last pic you will see the connector housing, that will also be included with the chassis when you order it off shapeways, just snip it off and trim the print tabs. And the pins you can order direct from digikey, I'll post the part number and link when I do a full write up. You need 3 males and 3 females, they come in packs of 10 and cost $10 a pack. Also, Ryo's design on this one is a removable pack so I'll also post links to the battery connectors, also sold on digikey for next to nothing. Note, the chassis will need to be glued in due to the design of the saber, and the removable door will be magnetic, allowing for an (fairly) easy remove, if you have finger nails at least. MY version here has two screws in it, which is stronger, however my argument was that I don't want to use a tool to power up the saber, or swap batteries. so the production version will have 2 or 4 dimples in it for tiny neodidlium magnets. Been working closely with Link on the font lately and I'll be testing out the second revision tonight. And finally, and most importantly I will have the blade done this week. Then it's demo time! This color is interesting Interesting. Waht we really need is a good color for the internal segments, that color would suit the outermost sections I think. Which personally I'm not going to mess with. However I might consider doing the darker spots. I have to say, I was on the fence initially about this. I asked myself if I really needed another Dark Saber. Seeing that picture - THAT is why I needed another one! But not just any another one - a Dark Saber created and built by NerfWorxLab!!! I am STOKED!

All blades are shipping seperately, due to the size and shape it is the most cost effective for everyone. You can order your blade through the website. I am doing my best to answer emails, messages from all platforms, and juggle production/ order fulfillment/etc. Thanks for all your patience during the pandemic, I have been very busy. i'm a newbie when it comes to these custom sabers, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question or if this is the wrong place to post this. tbh, this is my very first one. i know this comes uninstalled, but does anyone know installers who take commissions for stuff like this? possibly even finishing?

Or RGB? I'm seriously contemplating RGBW on proffie to save energy, but have never done RGBW on proffie. More Proffie thread questions for Fredrik. |

You're going to cut your energy consumption in half if you go RGBW and use the dedicated white die. In this photo I used RGBW, specifically cool white. And I'll be doing that for my install run for sure, it's hands down the best way to go. Yeah, Aaron's a leaky kinda guy lol. I was just showing him what the test results were looking like in a video call and he said he really wanted to share a screenshot. The blade's been complete for about a week now and I just got in the last part of the blade puzzle today and will be getting to work here shortly. Link's font is super dope for this as well, he's been putting a lot of effort into nailing this just right based on some of my personal preferences. |
