Is it possible to shorten the blade just by reducing the number of LEDs in the config file?

If you mean the amount of pixels lit up, yes. The number is in your blades[] array. Physical shortening is a different story of course.

Whut? Are you asking if editing your config file will make your blade physically shorter? (Like, not just in lighting up, but the blade gets cut, and pixels gets removed?)
No? Didn't think so... So what are you asking?

I think the answer here is yes. You can cut your LED strip shorter, cut your blade tube shorter to match, and then make the adjustment of how many LEDs you are left with in the config.
