I'm not sure if this is the place to pose this question, as it's a bit costuming, a bit saber, so if it's not, mods feel free to move.
So in my brain, I'm getting hung up (ha, punny) on where my saber should hang on my belt/ where I should put my cover tech clip. It seems in the movies it is customary for jedi to wear their sabers in a "sword draw" position ie on the opposite hip of their dominant hand (righties draw from left hip, lefties from right hip). I realize that jedi typically use a two handed grip so eventually both hands go to the hilt... But for the initial draw, ignition, and any saber flourishes, this seems to be the case.
The issue for me is that this is terribly unfunctional for me. Maybe it's my decidedly "un-jedi-like" proportions of having a thicker waist and shorter arms... I simply can't make the across the body draw work for me... And reclipping the saber... Talk about awkward... I can do it if I position the cover tech closer to the front of the belt (near the front set of studs on my obi wan style belt) but then the saber sits on the front of my thigh and looks and feels kind of awkward as it bumps around my leg and when I sit, it always ends up resting awkwardly near... other equipment.
For now I have settled on a "hand gun draw" where I have my saber on my right hip and draw with my right hand. It is functional for drawing and reclipping the saber, and allows me to keep it on my hip where it can swing freely and not create complications when sitting.
I guess I just wanted some feedback on what others do, and if I'm just overthinking the whole thing and it's not really that big a deal.

Personally, I put my covertec on the same side as my primary hand too. It's not because I can't reach over, but since I've got to hit the release, I want to use the hand that is a bit more dexterous.

I'm no help in the fact that I like to wear two sabers...
However on those times that I wear one saber... I draw across my body with my right hand from my left hip, but I sheathe with my left hand on my left hip.
My sabers usually hand just hang at about 11:00 and 2:00 if my front is 12:00.

I'm a lefty and, with a covertec clip at least, prefer to hang my saber on the right front (about 1.30 - to 2.00) and slip a tiny piece of plastic into one side of the covertec - the side closer to front - so I can depress the other 'outer' side of the covertec with my right hand to release the saber without fumbling and draw across with my left. Just having one side of the covertec functioning still seems to keep the saber secure but allows for a much smoother, less awkward draw

I think one of the difficulties I've been having is I'm trying to draw one handed. Using the off hand to pinch the covertech may well be a game changer ... =)

Ooooooo double saber action =) when you wear two is it correct to assume you don't draw across your body? Although if there's a way to do that I bet it looks sweet as heck...

I still draw across the body, but I have some crazy grip action squeezing with the base of my thumb and base of my pinkie then using the my thumb tip and the rest of my fingers gripping the shaft so I can to it all with each hand.
Though I do prefer to have one saber at a time as one is for bigger situations.

The beauty of being a Jedi/Sith is that they all come in different sizes & shapes. So being a certain body type kind of flies out the window. It isn’t the way that you look, but rather how you use what you got.
See with me, I don’t do the robe thing. I will admit that I am an old-school OT guy, & I kind of like that vibe more myself. It’s just a manner of personal taste. No right or wrong here. With me, I carry a hand & ½ hilt that is slightly over 13 inches… so I use a D-ring with it. The reason for that is that a knob on a hilt like that makes it rather a pain in the butt to wear. I generally wear my saber with a blaster, & when you try to sit down with something that long with a covertech… it starts to poke into ‘bodyparts.’
With me, I have 2 different belts… & depending on which belt that I wear… the saber will be hanging on either on the right or the left side. Because of the fact that it’s a manner of placement because the pummel of the blaster & my comlink gets in the way… & it’s a matter of placement.
What I would suggest doing is just get a belt, & just play with what works with you. Have fun with it! The most important thing is to be happy with what you got… & it ‘feeling right.’ I don’t know how to describe it. It is more of an art form than a science. Like with me… I like d-rings on my hilts… but some people like the clips. It’s just a manner of choice. Just go with what you like.
Another idea too that I just thought of is you might consider hanging your saber lower than where your belt rests. With 1 of my belts, my set-up is like that... & the hilt generally rests on the seat than in my lap when I wear it. Just a thought!

I think one of the difficulties I've been having is I'm trying to draw one handed. Using the off hand to pinch the covertech may well be a game changer ... =) I modified my covertech clips so that only one of the two levers needs to be pressed to release it. That way I can simply use my thumb with the removing hand as I'm pulling up on it, so it becomes pretty easy to do. I also wear two sabers but don't duel wield, so I will draw across for my left hanging saber and straight out for the one on the right. Hopefully that gives you some ideas!
