Woodchuck here. i need to make a 12 volt solenoid work. Anyone have a wiring diagram they can share? I am going to use a wireless remote to activate the solenoid, so I am guessing I'll need a relay to handle the current for the coil of the solenoid?
Also, what keeps the solenoid engaged once it is energized? Like the power door locks on a car. Once they are locked, I know there isn't power running to the solenoid all the time to keep the lock engaged, that would run the battery down.

how long does the solenoid need to stay engaged, if I knew your application I could help you out more. What are you using for a battery, etc. a standard 30 amp relay can carry the load and the center pin will be in latched position, or there is pulse timers that for a certain amount of time then release. If you can give me an idea of what your doing I should be able to come up with something for you.
