Thanks methos, very interesting ^^ And yes, I'm also starting to like the Rebels version way more than the TCW one...

That reference pic looks better than what I saw on the show. If you're building that, I'll switch my vote to the Rebels version. And I'll polish it up like the one on the left.

Yeah, that Rebels is definitely better and more detailed of the two, better dimensions, and the insinuation with that graphic methos provided with the Sabine Wren and Pre Vizsla shadows for scale is that this is THE saber. Meant to show continuity.

I am definitely in for one of these.
My preference right now is for the Clone Wars version, but that could change depending on what Rebels does with their version.
I'll buy either way...and I'd buy two if you did both versions!

Can just imagine one of these with a black Tibetan smoky quartz crystal in the crystal chamber, would be amazing if the shape of the crystals was blade like!

would look cool... but actually, we don't even know if this this even uses a focusing crystal anywhere in it lol
i remember in Legends it was always talked about as 'sucking the light in from around it', or something similar... but i don't remember anything about it's internals ever being mentioned, as the Mandalorian's treated it as a holy relic and wouldn't dare take it apart.

My question is: is there a way to install an actual black light into this? The original prototype had a blue-ish looking flash on clash, and that was really more striking than the white. Because the outline I think is meant to be like a black light effect.

Nope no crystal guys, remember this is not a lightsaber as you would usually understand them. This predates what we know as the lightsaber. This was a relic stolen from the jedi temple.

honestly, i don't think this hilt needs anything fancy like crystals or leds on it it's a utilitarian hilt... form follows function... it does what it does, and looks that way because of it... i love it just the way it is

It was utilitarian by design for mass production to soldiers not as a leaders sword to show position or rank. The rebels artist just couldn't leave it alone and had to make it different just to say this is Disney rebels not Children's channel TCW. And it's the same reason Ahsoka didn't have her original lightsaber in rebels.

It hasn't changed that much... it's got a touch more detail on it and some engraved styles, but that could have been done in the time between Clone Wars and Rebels... we've still got a lot of history about it to learn

that said... the design / etch on the Rebels saber really reminds me of Dromund Kaas in The Old Republic... which fits the timeline perfectly... and i frickin' love it

As long as the blade is jet black like that with some sort of edge lighting effect, it will be fine.
Why not recruit the guy that makes the ripper blades on elite lightsaber society. It would be a basic blade for him, with his designs, just some edge enhancement, but I still think he would do a good job.

yeah, Ripper would do an amazing blade for this... that's who i'll go with for one

Out of curiosity (I haven't watched all of TCW), is there only one darksaber? As in, the one from TCW has to be the same one in Rebels?

Post by methos on Dec 21, 2016 10:01:29 GMT -5
yes, there's just the one
The Mandalorians took it from an ancient Jedi temple back at the fall of the Old Republic... thousands of years ago
it's the only one of it's kind we've ever seen, either in Legends or current Canon

It was taken from Pre Vizsla by Darth Maul. Then in recent episodes of Rebels, Maul was trying to recruit Ezra as his apprentice, and one thing led to another and it fell into the hands of a possessed Sabine Wren. So it's now back with a Mandalorian.
It's a "Disney" thing. lol
