Buying and Selling
This topic is meant to serve as tips and a guide to buying and selling that will best protect both buyer and seller. It is not meant to be a RULE. You are responsible for your own sales and buying.
PAYMENTS:
The Rebel Armory recommends that a third party payment center be used for all transactions, such as PayPal.
An important note about PayPal, sending a payment as a "gift" does not offer the buyer or the seller any protection for any amount of time. If you send payment as a gift to help the seller avoid fees then you take a big risk in that if the seller does not make good with the sale, you can't get your money back. If you send payment as a purchase for a product then you are protected for 45 days. They do however usually stand by the buyer if there is a good reason for the dispute after 45 days but that is not their policy. However, 45 days worth of protection is better then no protection so, it is under great recommendation by the The Rebel Armory that all buyers insist on paying with PayPal as a "payment for goods" and not as a "gift" or "personal payment".
It is also under great recommendation that sellers list their goods for sale with payment from PayPal or like services that offers protection and that the seller either works the fees from said services into the total cost of their product or assumes the fees themselves as part of the cost of doing business and that all payment be made as a payment for goods. This also offers protection for the seller.
For buyers:
Always get full contact information.
Check past feedback!!! If they do not have any, feel free to ask
other builders from the same forum about the seller in question.
Make sure you know exactly what you are getting and that details are agreed to on both sides.
Never send cash!
For Sellers:
We appreciate that you are posting something for sale at TRA! We love seeing all the great things that y'all have to offer and giving TRA members the opportunity to buy them!
George Lucas and his great imagination has made this all possible for us. His company, Lucas Films Limited has full rights to Lightsabers namely "Prop Replicas" "Screen Accurate" and "Movie Lightsaber" so with all respect to LFL we would like to stay away from words such as mentioned above and stick with making great "custom sabers". Even if your saber looks similar to a movie prop saber unless it is a resale of say an Master Replicas Lightsaber or Hasbro. If it was fan made then we need to respect LFL and their wishes on this matter.
The same goes for Sound Fonts. We cannot resell sounds that were taken from the movies/ sound clips (unless it is royalty free) or other sound boards. You can ask for donations for your time but LFL does not support the resell of sounds they they worked hard to make for their movies. Again, custom sound fonts that you personally made using royalty free sound files or sounds you personally produced are fine to sell and use as you see fit. Not actual movie sounds though. Please work with me to show LFL that we respect their wishes on this so that we can continue to build and enjoy this great hobby! There is no other groups quite like the Star Wars fan groups! Thanks for being a part of it!!
Always be honest about the product you are selling. Do not try to glorify it in order to get the sale. The buyer will feel like they have been ripped off if you do.
Always make contact and share other ways for them to contact you besides just the forum. If for some reason you cannot make contact, at a minimum make a post on the sales page letting them know the situation. Never leave them guessing.
Try to get things done in a timely fashion. If you can't, see the above tip!
Insist that buyers do not pay with cash and recommend or require them to pay with a third party payment center or bank that offers buyer and seller protection.
Be honest, be honest, be honest! Can't say that enough! Honesty goes a long way even if there are problems or delays with the sales.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again this is not meant to be a RULE for buying and selling at The Rebel Armory. The Rebel Armory believes that each person that sells or buys here does so at their own risk and that The Rebel Armory will not be held legally responsible for any transactions. If there is a problem and the seller is not responding, a lot of times the issue can be helped by contacting TRA staff and allowing us to attempt to rectify the situation. Please do not use the forum to do this by posting messages for all to see and please never post in anger. Take time to cool down and contact someone. If the situation cannot be rectified then use the Feedback section to post your experience. I do ask that you again, do not post out of anger. Step away and come back to it when you are not so emotional. Post only the facts!!! Do not post your feelings! For sellers, it is fine to respond explaining your side. However, the same thing applies to buyers. Do not make emotional posts! Stick with the facts and if you were in the wrong it would do you more good to just admit that you were wrong and offer to fix the problem, be it financial or with the product. Always offer an apology! People will respect this more then posting emotionally or making things out to not be your fault. Remember, the customer is always right! What that really means is, if the customer complains about you, the complaint will be what people believe no matter what!
Most of all, lets work together to make the Star Wars props community the best it can be no matter what the product is! Have fun and lets keep growing!!!!
God bless!
