They need to, and get rid of that director. Hire some writers who actually care about Star Wars and know how to write. The last Star Wars was a joke. Get rid of the soap opera moments too, so dang cheesy. . I loved TFA. Rouge One was fantastic. I walked away from TLJ thinking “ What the heck was that” someone needs to be fired.

Regardless of how many signatures that petition gets, it will never happen. I’ll be devil’s advocate here. Disney made a KILLING off of The Last Jedi, and it has already become official Canon. They bought the franchise for a specific reason, the same reason they buy everything else they can get their hands on, to make cash hand over fist. Scrubbing it and starting over (which would include pulling ALL merchandise and media) would cost them in the billions, with a capitol B. Then they would have to push back episode 9 and the anthology films, and rewrite the entire movie, and even further, admit that they didn’t deliver a quality film. Not. Gunna. Happen. Ever.
It may have the effect of encouraging them to “step up the game” with episode 9 and future movies, and close the plot holes that people are irritated about.
I personally enjoyed The Last Jedi, and am definitely not bashing anyone who didn’t. It definitely polarized audiences. I’d say the opinions are mostly either great or awful, perhaps 45% each, with ten percent thinking it was “meh”. I think most of the negative opinions come from fans that have been diehard for a long time (and perhaps saw the OT in theatres) and are expecting something a whole lot closer to the OT. A lot was promised with TFA, the practical effects and familiar feel, but it’s apparent that Disney definitely decided to take off with Star Wars and make it a new story with new characters, with elements of the OT serving as support to tie it to the Star Wars universe.
I also think most of the positive opinions come from people like me who are too young to have seen the OT in theatres, and instead grew up watching the PT in theatres, making the OT a degree farther removed from contemporary Star Wars, and thereby lessening the shock of TFA and TLJ, which were quite a lot different than the OT. If that makes sense? It makes sense to me.
For me the OT is still king, absolutely uncontested. The Phantom menace hit theatres when I was TEN, so the PT gets love from me also. I also really like TFA and TLJ. I guess I’m just that Star Wars Superfan that is going to find a way to love any Star Wars movie (or game ETC.) in my own way. I may not be happy with a few small details here and there, but overall, I’m just happy that they’re making Star Wars movies. Plain and simple.
Again, I respect all of your opinions and reject none of them. Different strokes for different folks. That’s all just my two cents.
