In light of recent events, I unfortunately feel the need to state the following... Note to all of those that are not just fans of Star Wars or Game of Thrones but are true FANATICS of either and feel the need to defend them. The above statement about crossover jokes is not meant in any way, shape or form to insult either franchise in ANY way or indicate whether I am or am not a fan of either franchise. It is also not meant to indicate in any way whether I approve or disapprove of new Star Wars movies to be released in the future or whether I approve or disapprove of who may be writing and/or directing them. There's no reason to read into my words and think I'm a hater. In other words, please lighten up. It's just a TV sho... er, uh franchise. Sorry, can't help but think of the Shatner SNL skit right now.
For the record, I like GoT a lot and look forward to watching any and all new Star Wars movies.

It's a great time to be a SW fan! This is fantastic news. We may not like some of them, but there's bound to be some great ones coming. Disney will eventually learn what works. Good movies will help sell the rest of the merchandise, so surely they want to do a good job too. Here's hoping someone with some clout reads our forum and sees our suggestions..
Star Wars I-VI really were a self-contained story IMO, and the way forward is the development of other story cycles within that broader setting which, however related, are primarily their own. Although Star Wars has a different feel, in some ways a bit like how the Marvel cinematic universe has developed and, on the whole, works well. And part of that is having room for quite a diverse range of film-making styles and creators.
Much as the sequels have been successful in all key respects - they're liked and appreciated by the majority of fans, they're critically well-received and they've been on as par with their very successful predecessors in their box office performance, opinion has been divided among people who identify as Star Wars fans for the sequels, as, of course, it has for all of the films following the (most consistently liked) Original Trilogy.
I’m not worried about a GOT tone coming to SW. Disney and Lucasfilm would never let it get that extreme. But they probably are the guys that will give us the darker tone. Like Rogue One. Like Nolan did with Batman. I say it’s a good thing and on the surface have the potential to be the biggest films of the franchise.
I'm surprisingly a bit concerned. Some people seem to forget that they didn't write the source material for their show, and the episodes that veer off that material aren't great. As for the "gritty" star wars, I'd be surprised if Disney let it get anywhere beyond Rogue One esc. The Johnson trilogy interests me more. I liked TLJ, but I have my problems with it like anyone else. Seems to me that most of peoples problems are because of what JJ set up. Won't be having that issue in a trilogy where Rian can set up the entire story as he sees fit. But lets all charter our expectations regardless, so we don't have another blow out because we thought it was going to be the best star wars ever. We pretty much know that it can't be.
